Retirement Applications at age 66 or older

If you want to file for retirement benefits and you want benefits to begin at age 66 or older then you can file online.

You may do so up to 4 months in advance at SocialSecurity.gov  .

The online application should take 30 minutes or less.

Retirement Applications between age 62 and age 66

If you are not working and want to file for retirement benefits to begin between age 62 and age 66 you can file online.

You may do so up to 4 months in advance at SocialSecurity.gov 

The online application should take 30 minutes or less.

Retirement Applications aged 62-66 who are working more than 45 Hours Per Month

If you are between the age of 62 and age 66 and are working more than 45 hours per month you need to be aware of the following rules:

A person working more than 45 hours per month is not eligible to receive a monthly benefit until they reach the age of 66.

Retirement Applications aged 62 and age 66 who do NOT work more than 45 hours per month

If you are between the age of 62 and age 66 and are NOT working more than 45 hours per month you can file online.

You may do so up to 4 months in advance at SocialSecurity.gov  .

The online application should take 30 minutes or less.

Retirement Applications Aged 62-66 Who Are Self-Employed

If you are between the age of 62 and age 66 and are NOT working more than 45 hours per month you can file online.

You may do so up to 4 months in advance at SocialSecurity.gov  .

The online application should take 30 minutes or less.

Survivor or Disability Applications

If you want to file for disability or survivor’s benefits then you should provide relevant information on our Social Security Benefits Form Social Security Benefits Form – U.S. Mission Ireland (usembassy.gov).

We will contact you within 10 business days to schedule a telephone appointment.

Filing for Medicare

If you want to file only for Medicare you can do this online at SocialSecurity.gov .

The online application should take 30 minutes or less.

How Do I Terminate Medicare Benefits If I Already Receive Payments?

If you wish to terminate your enrollment, send FBU a signed statement and include your name, address, telephone number, Social Security number, and statement regarding your wish to terminate Medicare Part B coverage and premiums, and the effective date.  Termination is a serious decision if you wish to re-enroll later, you may have to pay a surcharge.

Medicare Part B will be terminated effective with the month after the month we receive your signed statement.

How Do I Enroll in Medicare Benefits If I Already Receive Payments?

You can download the form CMS-40B APPLICATION FOR ENROLLMENT IN MEDICARE PART B (MEDICAL INSURANCE) (cms.gov) from Medicare’s website and mail it to us.
