“One Ocean: Lightening Talks on Ocean Discovery” with US & Irish Marine Researchers

A group of people on a dock, ship in the backgroundOn Tuesday July 1st at the Port of Cork, Custom House St, the US Embassy in partnership with the Sea Education Association (SEA) hosted a “One Ocean” public event to coincide with the visit of the American marine research tall ship the SSV Corwith Cramer, from Woodshole, Massachusetts.

“One Ocean” featured 15 minute “lightening” presentations from six Irish and U.S. researchers at the top of their field.  American speakers included Peg Brandon, President SEA; Dr. Paul Joyce, Dean of SEA and Captain Elliot Rappaport, Associate Professor of Nautical Science. Irish speakers include Dr. Valerie Cummins, Director of the Irish Maritime and Energy Resource Cluster, Lt Cdr Brian Fitzgerald of the Irish Navy and Dr. Thomas K. Doyle, Coastal & Marine Research Centre, University College Cork.

SEA is based on Cape Cod in the oceanographic research community of Woods Hole, Massachusetts. For more information:http://www.sea.edu/. They will be making their first transatlantic journey in 20 years and their first port of call is Cork.
