Urgent Information Regarding ACS Appointments:

Due to reduced staffing, the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Dublin is only providing limited routine consular services until further notice.

For those who qualify, we continue to accept mail–in passport renewal applications.  Please note that while our print centers have resumed limited operations, due to the break in service there will be delays in receiving your new passport.  If you have already submitted your application, it will be processed in the coming weeks.  We do not have a timeline for document receipt but will process applications as expeditiously as possible.

We strongly encourage eligible U.S. citizens to renew their passports by mail, as in-person appointments will be reserved for those who require in person appointments. Please note U.S. passports can be renewed any time before or after they expire, and a U.S. passport is valid for travel to the U.S. until the day it expires

If you require a service, please send an email to, detailing the service you require and any emergent circumstances related to your request.  If you are seeking an appointment to renew your U.S. passport, please also include your passport issuance and expiry date.  While we endeavor to continue to provide the highest quality customer service, our services remain limited.  We appreciate your understanding and will advise you if and when we can accommodate your appointment request. Travel to and from the United States: According to Section 215 of the U.S Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1185) it is illegal for a U.S. citizen to enter or leave the United States on anything other than a U.S. passport.  This applies to dual citizens as well, meaning that persons holding e.g. both Irish and U.S. citizenships MUST enter and leave the United States on a valid U.S. passport; they may NOT enter/leave the United States on an Irish/foreign passport. This applies to children as well as adults.

Passport Processing Times:  The current processing time for U.S. passports is approximately 3-4 weeks. We advise all applicants requiring a U.S. passport for routine, scheduled travel to apply early and with this processing time-frame in mind. We are not able to process or guarantee delivery of passports for less than the standard processing time unless you have urgent, immediate travel due to a family or medical emergency,  as determined and approved in person by a consular officer.
