FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 14, 2020
Culture has always been central to the U.S.-Irish relationship, and artists and musicians are its creative lifeblood of this. In recognition of the profound challenges that COVID-19 has presented the arts and culture sector in Ireland, the U.S. Embassy Dublin launched the Calling All Musicians campaign in June 2020, as a part of our ongoing Creative Minds series. The campaign aimed to explore the continued influence of American music on Irish artists, by offering grants to artists impacted by the current pandemic restrictions. Through this program, we hope to give back a little to the music and live events industry that we all love and miss.
Selected artists were invited to perform an original song and a U.S. cover song at The Grand Social venue in Dublin. In addition to receiving a grant from the U.S. Embassy in Dublin, each selected artist was offered a professionally edited package of their performance. The U.S. Embassy in Dublin received an overwhelming response to this campaign including over 300 amazing applications for this opportunity. 10 artists were selected as finalists representing some of the diversity of musical genres found in Ireland.
We are excited to share these musical performances with you. Each week for the next ten weeks we will feature one of these selected artists across our social media platforms. The U.S. Embassy in Dublin celebrates the strong cultural links between both of our countries, and through the Calling All Musicians campaign we are proud to be #SupportingIrishMusic
